Looking for an easy Family Home Evening or Primary lesson this week?

Our newest Come, Follow Me lesson is based on 1 Kings 12–13 and 17–22: "If the Lord Be God, Follow Him." Through the story of Elijah, children can learn that they can be brave and choose to follow Jesus—even when others make different choices.

Come, Follow Me Lesson for Kids

June 29–July 5

"If the Lord Be God, Follow Him"

1 Kings 12–13; 17–22

Big Idea: I can choose to follow Heavenly Father and trust Him, even when others make different choices.

Main Scripture:

"If the Lord be God, follow him." (1 Kings 18:21)

Lesson Theme: Elijah was brave and chose to follow the Lord. I can choose to follow Jesus too.

20-Minute Lesson Outline

Opening Attention Activity (3 minutes)

"Follow the Leader"

Choose one child to be the leader.

Have everyone follow simple actions:

  • Clap

  • Spin

  • March

  • Jump

Then suddenly have two people give different directions.

Ask:

  • Was it hard to know who to follow?

  • Why?

Explain:

In today's scriptures, many people were following false gods. Elijah invited them to make a choice:

"If the Lord be God, follow Him."

We also choose every day who we will follow.

Scripture Story (5 minutes)

Elijah and the Priests of Baal

Tell the story simply:

The people of Israel had forgotten the Lord.

Elijah asked everyone to gather on Mount Carmel.

Two altars were built.

The priests of Baal prayed all day, but nothing happened.

Then Elijah prayed:

"Lord, let these people know that Thou art God."

The Lord sent fire from heaven and burned the offering!

The people knew that Heavenly Father is the true God.
