About His Business 5 Minute Devotional

 Maybe you don't feel extraordinary.

Maybe you feel ordinary, imperfect, or unsure of what you have to offer.

But Elder Patrick Kearon's message is a beautiful reminder that the Lord's work has always been done through ordinary people with willing hearts.

He Needs You

A 5-Minute Devotional Based on Elder Patrick Kearon's Talk "About His Business"

Good morning.

One of the most beautiful messages from Elder Patrick Kearon's General Conference talk is found in three simple words:

"He needs you."

I think many of us sometimes feel unqualified to help in the Lord's work. We may think:

"I'm not knowledgeable enough."

"I'm too busy."

"I don't have many talents."

"I've made too many mistakes."

But Elder Kearon reminded us that the Lord's work has always been accomplished through ordinary people with willing hearts.

Throughout the scriptures, we see this pattern over and over again.

Moses felt inadequate.

Enoch wondered why the Lord would call him.

Peter made mistakes and struggled in his faith.

Yet the Lord used each of them in remarkable ways.

Why?

Because they were willing.

I love the Savior's words in Luke 2:49:

"Wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?"

Jesus devoted His life to His Father's work. As His disciples, we are invited to join Him.

But what does being "about His business" look like?

Sometimes it looks very ordinary.

It may look like:

  • Sending a text to someone who is struggling.

  • Praying for a friend.

  • Helping a neighbor.

  • Teaching a Primary class.

  • Listening to someone who needs encouragement.

  • Inviting someone to church.

The Lord's work often happens in small and simple ways.

The Book of Mormon teaches:

"By small and simple things are great things brought to pass." (Alma 37:6)

We may never fully know how much a kind word or a simple act of service blesses another person's life.

I also love Elder Kearon's reminder that it isn't where we serve but how we serve that matters to the Lord.

In His kingdom, there are no insignificant acts of service.

No unnoticed kindness.

No forgotten efforts.

The Savior sees them all.

King Benjamin taught:

"When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." (Mosiah 2:17)

Every time we serve someone, we are serving Him.

And perhaps one of the most beautiful truths from this talk is this:

When we serve God's children, we are joining the Savior in His redeeming work.

What a privilege.

The Savior doesn't need perfect disciples.

He needs willing disciples.

He needs people who are willing to love, lift, and serve.

He needs people who are willing to say, "Here am I."

As we go throughout this week, I invite us to ask ourselves:

Who needs me today?

Who needs encouragement?

Who needs a friend?

Who needs to feel remembered?

As we act on those promptings, we become part of the Savior's work and draw closer to Him.

I testify that Jesus Christ lives. I know He can do remarkable things through ordinary people with willing hearts. I know that each of us has something meaningful to offer in His kingdom.

And I know this beautiful truth:

He needs you.

In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
