He Knows You by Name General Conference Primary Lesson or FHE Lesson for Kids

Looking for an easy Family Home Evening or Primary lesson for this week?

Our newest lesson is based on Elder Clement M. Matswagothata's General Conference talk, "He Knows You by Name." It includes a simple attention activity, discussion questions, a video suggestion, and a FREE printable coloring activity page to help children learn that Jesus Christ knows and loves each of them personally.

Because every child needs to hear this beautiful truth: You are known. You are loved. You are never forgotten by Jesus Christ. 🤍

He Knows You by Name

A 20-Minute Children's Primary Lesson or Family Home Evening Lesson

Based on Elder Clement M. Matswagothata's April 2026 General Conference Talk

Main Idea: Jesus Christ knows each of us personally. He knows our names, our hearts, our joys, and our struggles.

Opening Attention Activity (3 Minutes)

"Who Knows Me Best?"

Before class, write the names of a few children on slips of paper.

Ask simple questions:

  • Who loves pizza?

  • Who has a pet?

  • Who likes soccer?

  • Who has a little brother?

Let the children guess who you're describing.

Then ask:

How did you know that about them?

Explain:

"We know some things about our friends because we spend time with them. Today we're learning that Jesus knows us even better than anyone else does!"

Show a picture of Jesus.

Ask:

Do you think Jesus knows your name?

Do you think He knows your favorite things?

Do you think He knows when you're happy or sad?

Today's answer is YES!

Scripture

Read John 10:14:

"I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep."

Explain:

"A shepherd knows every sheep. Jesus is our Good Shepherd, and He knows each one of us."

Discussion (5 Minutes)

Ask:

What are some things Jesus knows about you?

Allow answers.

Examples:

  • My favorite color

  • My family

  • When I'm sad

  • What makes me laugh

  • What I'm worried about

Then say:

"Jesus knows all of those things because He loves you."

Object Lesson: The Name Tag (4 Minutes)

Give each child a blank name tag or paper.

Have them write:

Jesus Knows My Name

Then ask:

  • How would you feel if someone remembered your name?

  • How would you feel if someone forgot your name?

Explain:

"Sometimes people forget our names or don't notice us. But Jesus never forgets us."

Repeat together:

"Jesus knows my name."

Keep Their Attention

Throughout the lesson ask:

  • Raise your hand if you've ever felt lonely.

  • Touch your nose if you've ever been sad.

  • Give me a thumbs up if you've ever been happy.

Then say:

"Jesus knows about all of those feelings."

Story Time (3 Minutes)

Tell this simple story:

"There was a little girl who felt left out at school. One night she prayed and told Heavenly Father how sad she felt. The next day a friend invited her to play. She felt loved and remembered.

Sometimes Jesus helps us through other people. He knows exactly what we need."

Ask:

Have you ever felt that Jesus knew exactly what you needed?

Allow a few responses.

Video Suggestion (3 Minutes)

Show one of these:

"The Lost Sheep"

from the Gospel for Kids videos.

OR

"Jesus Loves All the Children"

Afterward ask:

  • Why did the shepherd go back for one sheep?

  • Why is every sheep important?

  • Why are you important to Jesus?

Explain:

"Because Jesus knows us one by one."
