He Knows You by NameA 5-Minute Devotional Based on Elder Clement M. Matswagothata's April 2026 General Conference Talk
Good morning, everyone.
Today I want to share a simple but powerful truth from Elder Clement M. Matswagothata's General Conference message, "He Knows You by Name."
In a world where it's easy to feel unnoticed, forgotten, or like just another face in the crowd, this message reminds us of something beautiful:
Jesus Christ knows us personally.
He knows our names.
He knows our hearts.
He knows our struggles and our joys.
And He never forgets us.
One of my favorite scriptures is found in John 10:14, where the Savior says:
"I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep."
I love that image of the Savior as our Good Shepherd. A shepherd doesn't simply know that he has sheep—he knows each one individually. He notices when one is missing. He cares when one is hurt. He goes looking for the one that is lost.
The Savior does the same for us.
There may be times in our lives when we feel unseen. Maybe we're going through something difficult. Maybe we feel lonely, overwhelmed, or worried about the future.
During those moments, it can be comforting to remember that Jesus Christ knows exactly where we are.
He knows what we're carrying.
He knows the prayers we haven't even spoken out loud.
He knows our fears and our hopes.
One of my favorite examples of this comes from the story of Mary Magdalene after the Resurrection. She stood outside the empty tomb weeping. At first, she didn't recognize the Savior.
Then He spoke just one word:
"Mary."
He called her by name.
Immediately she knew it was Him.
I think that moment teaches us something important. The Savior knows our names too.
He knows each one of us personally.
And because He knows us so perfectly, He can comfort us in ways no one else can.
Alma taught that the Savior took upon Himself our pains, sicknesses, and afflictions so that He would know how to help us (see Alma 7:11–12).
There is nothing we experience that He does not understand.
Nothing we carry is too heavy for Him.
Nothing we feel is too small for His love.
Elder Matswagothata reminded us that we are never forgotten by the Savior.
That truth changes everything.
It means we never walk through life alone.
It means our prayers are heard.
It means our struggles matter.
And it means we can trust Him to guide us, one step at a time.
As we go throughout this week, I invite each of us to remember this simple truth:
Jesus Christ knows your name.
He knows your story.
He knows your heart.
And He loves you perfectly.
I testify that the Savior lives. I know that He knows each of us individually and that we are precious to Him. May we remember His love and help others feel remembered and loved as well.
In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
