Our newest lesson is based on Elder Patrick Kearon's beautiful General Conference message, "About His Business," and reminds children of a simple but powerful truth:
🤍 He needs you.
Jesus can use your kindness, your smile, your prayers, and your willingness to help others. Even small acts of love can make a big difference in His work.
Primary / Family Home Evening Lesson
"He Needs You"
Based on Elder Patrick Kearon's General Conference Talk, "About His Business"
Main Truth: Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ can use me to bless others.
Big Idea for Kids: Even though I'm not perfect, I can help in God's work.
Scripture:
"Suffer the little children to come unto me." (Mark 10:14)
Memory Phrase:
"He needs you."
Opening Attention Activity (3 Minutes)
The Special Helper Bag
Fill a bag with items such as:
A spoon
Crayons
A flashlight
A toy hammer
A bandage
Pull out one item at a time.
Ask:
What is this used for?
Can it help someone?
Then ask:
"Can Heavenly Father use people to help others too?"
Show a picture of yourself or one of the children.
Say:
"Just like these objects have a purpose, Heavenly Father has a purpose for each of us."
Write on the board:
HE NEEDS YOU
Lesson Introduction (2 Minutes)
Tell the children:
In General Conference, Elder Patrick Kearon taught that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ need us to help with Their work.
That doesn't mean we have to be perfect.
It means we can help others by:
❤️ Being kind
❤️ Sharing
❤️ Serving
❤️ Inviting
❤️ Loving
Object Lesson (5 Minutes)
Building the Kingdom
You'll need:
Blocks, cups, or Legos.
Ask for volunteers.
Give each child one block to add.
As they place it, ask:
"What is one way you can help Jesus?"
Answers may include:
Pray
Smile
Help my mom
Be kind
Share toys
Invite a friend to church
After everyone adds a block, say:
"One block doesn't look like much, but together they build something wonderful."
Likewise:
One prayer matters.
One act of kindness matters.
One invitation matters.
You matter.
Questions to Keep Attention
Throughout the lesson ask:
Raise your hand if you've ever helped someone.
Touch your nose if someone has helped you.
Put your hand on your heart if you think Jesus loves everyone.
Give me a thumbs up if you want to help Him.
Scripture Story (4 Minutes)
Tell the story of:
The Feeding of the Five Thousand
Jesus used one little boy's lunch to bless thousands of people.
Ask:
Was the lunch big?
No.
But Jesus used what the boy was willing to give.
Sometimes we think:
"I'm too little."
"I'm too shy."
"I can't do much."
But Jesus can do wonderful things with our small offerings.
Video Suggestion (3 Minutes)
Show:
"The Good Samaritan"
or
"The Lost Sheep"
or
"Pass It On"
Afterward ask:
Who helped someone?
How did that make a difference?
How can we do something similar this week?
Discussion (2 Minutes)
Ask:
What are some ways children can help Jesus?
Write answers:
Be kind
Pray for others
Help at home
Share
Invite a friend
Comfort someone
Say thank you
Smile
Say:
These may seem like little things, but they are all part of the Savior's work.
Wrap-Up Testimony
Bear testimony:
"Heavenly Father doesn't only need grown-ups. He needs children too. He can use your kindness, your testimony, your smile, and your willing heart to bless others."
Repeat together:
He needs me.
I can help Jesus.
I can bless others.
Activity Page (5 Minutes)
Closing Challenge
This week, ask every morning:
"Jesus, who can I help today?"
Then look for someone who needs your kindness.
Because no matter how small you feel…
